Amir

Founder & CEO | Structural & Forensic Engineer

My background combines a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a master’s degree in structural engineering. I began my career as a site engineer on a major residential development. I spent four years working in civil and structural design on small- to medium-sized residential and commercial projects.

Building on this foundation, I moved into forensic engineering, investigating building damage, defects, compliance and the causes of structural problems. My experience includes investigations and assessments of thousands of structures, covering building failures, foundation movement and structural performance, with work across major events in Victoria, South Australia and Queensland.

That combination of site, design and investigative experience shapes my approach at AZTA. I look beyond the visible defect to consider how the building was designed, how it was constructed, its surrounding conditions and the evidence available.

Today, I bring more than nine years of engineering experience to my work as a Chartered Professional Engineer. I want AZTA to build long-term relationships. Whether I’m speaking with a homeowner, working alongside a building professional or contributing technical findings to another expert’s assessment, my aim is to make complex building issues understandable and help people make informed, timely decisions.

Abbas brings more than 21 years of structural engineering experience combining extensive design and on-site experience across Australia, New Zealand and Asia. His background connects the technical work of designing a structure with the practical realities of bringing it to life.

His career has involved working with different construction environments and building requirements. This experience provides a broad foundation for considering how a structure should perform and how its design can be delivered in practice.

As Principal Consultant and Technical Advisor, Abbas leads the technical direction of AZTA’s work, including technical review and guidance on engineering decisions.

Abbas’s technical leadership complements our forensic investigation and assessment work. Where an investigation identifies the need for structural intervention, his expertise supports the development and review of repair solutions informed by the findings and the existing building.

The aim is straightforward: carefully considered structural engineering, clearly explained, with practical support for the people responsible for putting it into place.
